If your college requires a personalized letter of recommendation, please complete this 2 Page Recommendationform and return it to your counselor along with a copy of your resume (if available). Counselors must have your request and information at least 10 school days prior to your deadline.
As a part of some college or scholarship applications you may be required to provide one (or possibly more) letters of recommendation. Consider asking a teacher or advisor in the school knows who knows you well and can speak to your college readiness.
Who to ask? Many colleges suggest asking a core subject teacher as they already know you well and have been able to observe your college readiness. However, due to the volume of requests teachers receive, you may need to invite another staff member who knows you well.
Ask early - consider asking your teacher at the end of junior year what their process and timeline is. When you return in the fall, invite your recommender at least 20 school days ahead of your first due date.
Invite this staff member as a recommender to your online application by submitting their ISD email address in your application. Be sure to double check they received your notice and ask if they need anything additional from you to complete this for you.
Remember - Letters are confidential, and generally submitted directly online. Students will not receive a copy of the recommendation. In the very rare case where a hard copy of a recommendation must be mailed in, you will need to provide a pre-addressed envelope with sufficient postage for direct submission to your recommender for their use.
