Several talented IHS students earned recognition in the 2025 WA Creative Chinese Character Competition, a statewide event celebrating International Chinese Language Day. This year’s theme blended Confucian values with Earth Day, inspiring thoughtful and artistic entries from across Washington.

We’re proud to announce that our students received the following awards:

  • Third Prize: 信 (Integrity)

  • Honorable Mentions: 春夏秋冬 (Four Seasons), 花 (Flower), 花与土 (Floral Harmony with Earth), 龟 (Turtle), 十二生肖 (The Chinese Zodiac), 智 (Wisdom), 绿 (Green), 仁 (Benevolence), 台湾 (Taiwan), 环境 (Environment)

Congratulations to these students for their creativity and hard work!

"I chose the character '信' which symbolizes trust. Although the character is applied to humans I tried to incorporate nature into my design. I used an oak tree, forget-me-not flowers, and bamboo as all three plants mean something similar to trust. An oak tree must be sturdy and all animals that climb it have to trust it won't fall. For forget-me-nots and bamboo are generally used to symbolize different meanings of trust."
