Eagles Break Meet, School Records at Kentridge Swim/Dive Invitational
The Issaquah Eagles boys swim and dive team attended the 32ndAnnual Kentridge Invitational on January 12 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. They competed against more than 600 athletes from 50 schools from across Washington state. The Eagle placed second to the formidable Bellevue High School by beating both Shorecrest and Mercer Island high schools.
The Eagles set new meet records in the 200 Medley Relay (Owen Stauffer, Aaron Bell, Harrison Li and Aiden Stauffer with a time of 1.34.12) and broke Issaquah High School records in the 200 Free Relay (Aiden Stauffer, Jae Lee, Owen Stauffer and Bell with a time of 1.25.94) and the 50 Free (Bell with a time of 20.63). Notably, Bell broke the 50 Free records (which he broke last year after shattering the previous 50 free record set in 1994) and made state cuts in the 100 Fly and the 100 Free this week. In addition, team Captain Lee earned his first individual state cut for the 200 Free, and team Captain Aiden Stauffer earned two individual state cuts on the 50 free and 100 Free. Rising sophomore Henry Holtan earned his second state cut for the season for the 200 IM and the 100 Back.
The success at Kentridge lessened the sting of defeat to the Islanders of Mercer Island last Thursday with a score of 85-100. Despite the loss, the Eagles placed first in 8 out of 11 events and earned more KingCo qualifiers for the team. The team is heading in the right direction as they move into the postseason and prepare for the State Championship in February.
