Issaquah School District Celebrates Inaugural Season of Girls' Flag Football

The Issaquah School District proudly celebrates the incredible success of its inaugural season of girls' flag football. This winter, 143 student-athletes across our three comprehensive high schools—Issaquah, Skyline, and Liberty—took to the field, nearly doubling the number of girls participating in a winter sport from last year (from 121 to 235). The enthusiasm, dedication, and competitive spirit displayed by these young women made history in our district and set the stage for an exciting future for the sport. Flag Football was officially adopted as a KingCo sport this year, and is on the ballot for potential adoption as a WIAA sport starting next year.

From the first practice to the final playoff game, the joy of competition was palpable. Coaches across all three programs fostered an environment where student-athletes not only thrived but also excelled. The passion and commitment from our coaching staff played a crucial role in making this inaugural season a resounding success, building a strong foundation for years to come. Their ability to create a highly competitive atmosphere pushed our teams to new heights, and the results spoke for themselves.

All three teams—Issaquah, Skyline, and Liberty—qualified for the playoffs, an impressive feat for a first-year program. Skyline made an especially deep run, advancing to the regional round and showcasing the immense talent and determination of our student-athletes. The future is undoubtedly bright for girls' flag football in the Issaquah School District.

The excitement surrounding this season has been incredible, and we are already looking forward to next year. Thank you to our student-athletes, coaches, and community for making history and proving that girls' flag football is here to stay!
