WA State Sports Medicine Competition April 2026

State Sports Medicine Competition in Tacoma, WA.

Washington State is the home of the first high school sports medicine programs around the nation and first sports medicine competition in the nation. Our state competition is largest in the nation and is known for having the most difficult and diverse state competition.

All students take 200 questions worth of General Sports Medicine Tests, in addition there are individual disciplines of Practical Skill Specialists, Medical Terminology Specialists, Anatomy and Physiology Specialists, Emergency Medicine Specialists, Exercise Physiology Specialist, Quiz Bowls, and a competition called Anatomage which is a 6 ft long interactive cadaver table that the students had to find anatomy structures.

At this year’s conference, there were over 1000 students competing from 52 different schools.

This years team had one fo the highest total team scores we have ever had and we placed 2nd in State!  All 6 of our Practical Specialist placed in the Top 11, taking 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th . Our Medical Terminology Specialist placed 1st and 2nd in the Medical Terminology Competition.  We took 1st  and 8th place in Exercise Physiology.  We placed 1st  and 13th in the Emergency Responder.  We placed 3rd and 4th in the Anatomy and Physiology. We also 2nd place in the Quiz Bowl Competition and took 3rd in the Anatomage Competition (which now means they have qualified for the Anatomage National Championships in June).

An incredible/amazing weekend and we could not be more proud of this group. These students are so passionate about sports medicine and worked incredibly hard all year dedicating hundreds of hours individually towards giving their own personal best to this field of study. We have once again compete in the Sports Medicine National Championships.

It takes a village to prepare these students to do their best and I want to thank all the IHS Staff, IHS Admin, and District CTE/ISD Admin, IHS ASB, Issaquah Schools Foundation, and IHS Booster Club for all the support. Issaquah is a special place.  The IHS Sports Med Group is very thankful!
