A Song in Sign: Hayley’s American Sign Language Music Video

Student signs ASL near track

I’m excited to share the final project of one of my ASL Level 3 students and this year’s Senior World Language Department medallion recipient, Hayley Koo.

For her project, Hayley selected a song and translated the English lyrics into ASL GLOSS by capturing the meaning through accurate ASL concepts in written form. She then memorized and performed the song in American Sign Language, creating a music video to showcase her work.

This project holds special significance for Hayley, as both her uncle and aunt are Deaf. Her uncle is a professor at Gallaudet University, and they live just outside of Baltimore. This performance was created as a heartfelt tribute to them.

Please enjoy the video, and thank you for your continued support of our students and the growth of American Sign Language education in our school community!
