Message From Principal Connolly - Student-Led Walkout, February 9

message from...

Dear I.H.S families,

I want to make you aware that today a group of our students participated in a student‑ organized and -led walkout in response to concerns related to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., an estimated 250 IHS students left campus and walked down 2nd Street toward E. Sunset Way and the City Hall area. In addition, approximately 100 IMS students participated in the student-led walkout. Our administrators and school staff did not lead or participate in the event, but were present to supervise and help ensure student safety on and near campus. District leadership and school security remained in contact with city officials and law enforcement throughout the event. Around lunchtime, some students returned to school for the remainder of the day.

During the protest, we received reports of items being thrown into the street, reportedly bags of ice that may have been taken from nearby stores or gas stations, as well as a separate physical altercation requiring intervention from the Issaquah Police Department. At this time, we are not aware of any serious injuries.

While our students have First Amendment rights to assembly under both the U.S. and state constitutions, we will continue to encourage them to conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully when exercising these rights. For reference, please review the recent district message outlining procedures for student‑led walkouts shared with families in the ISD Bulletin on February 4, 2026.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Erin Connolly, Principal
Issaquah High School
