Message from Principal Connolly, November 19, 2025

message from...

Dear IHS Students and Families,

We are deeply saddened to share that Ms. Kelly Tarp, a beloved teacher and member of our school community, passed away yesterday after a hard fight with cancer. We are sharing this news with permission from her family.

Ms. Tarp was an educator who cared deeply about her students. She encouraged curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to ask big questions. She believed in her students’ potential and always pushed them to keep moving forward. One message she hoped her students would carry with them was this:

“Keep driving ahead, pushing forward, and asking those great questions. You all have the potential to be anything you want.”

We know that students and staff may react to this news in different ways. Some may feel strong emotions right away, while others may need more time. All of these responses are normal.

Our school counselors are available to support any student or staff member who needs someone to talk to or a quiet place to sit. Students who need immediate support may go to Room 3318, which has been set up as a space for reflection, conversation with a counselor, or writing notes for Ms. Tarp’s family. If needed, students and families have access to Care Solace, which helps finds available providers for mental health and student well-being.

We will share more information in the coming weeks about opportunities to honor Ms. Tarp and celebrate the impact she had on our school.

Thank you for keeping the Tarp family and all who loved Ms. Tarp in your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Erin Connolly
Principal
