May Counselor Corner

May 2025

Hot take: Attendance is resilience

Showing up every day, even when you're drained, bored, or just over it—that’s not just attendance, that’s resilience. Sometimes the biggest win is just being here. So even when you're tired, distracted, and kinda over it, if you're showing up, turning stuff in (mostly), and not biting anyone, you're basically valedictorian. You got this!

News You Can Use

Juniors and Seniors (grades 11 and 12)

There is mandatory attendance in Homeroom on Tuesday May 27th. Seniors will receive important information about graduation and the end of year requirements and activities for the senior class. Juniors will receive important information regarding how to be ready for college applications this fall and plan for the next step after high school, whether that be 4 or 2 year college, military, work, etc.

Juniors: don’t forget that the last day to remove middle school grades from your transcript is June 24th. Middle school grades cannot be removed after this date. You can pickup the form in our office or download it from our website.

Seniors and their families: Please keep yourself updated on all things related to graduation by visiting the IHS Seniors and Graduation page: https://issaquahhigh.isd411.org/student-life/seniors

Sophomores and Juniors (grades 10 and 11)

Running Start course registration for summer and fall quarter is fast approaching. Registration for fall quarter at Bellevue College opens on May 12th for returning Running Start students, and May 14th for new Running Start students. Summer Quarter registration opens on May 12th for all students. To be eligible for course registration, students must have completed the entire enrollment process and submitted their signed EVFs to their college. See more about the important steps for enrolling in Running Start on our website here: https://issaquahhigh.isd411.org/student-life/counseling/running-start

Sophomores (grade 10)

SBA Testing is this month. Please know that it is important for all 10th graders to attempt both days of this test (English and Math). This test can be used to meet your Graduation Pathway, which is a requirement for graduation. We encourage all 10th grade students to take the test.

Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors (grades 9-11)

Attendance during finals week: Please know that attendance through the end of the school year, June 24th, is mandatory. Students who may have planned absences must work with their teachers regarding how they will access their final assessment(s), if given by the teacher. Not all classes will have a final test. Final assessments can look like end of semester projects or presentations, or an exam. For classes that have exams, the final exam may be mandatory or an optional exam provided as an opportunity to improve your final grade or access a recovery option. However, teachers may use the end of year finals schedule and time is different from class to class. For any students who will miss any of the last days of school, you must individually talk to teachers about how to complete work or tests prior to the end of the school year. Work or tests are not available for submission or completion past the last day of school. Students can communicate with their teachers in class, during Flex on Wednesdays, over email and in Canvas.

The Summer School website can be found here with important dates, courses available, registration, tuition costs and scholarship information. https://www.isd411.org/programs-services/summer-school For students that earned a F in a class they need for graduation this school year or in past school years, in person summer school is recommend for on-track graduation. For students that have a D in a class needed for graduation in Quarter 3, we recommend communicating directly with the teacher to work with them to help your student bring up their grade and be able to determine if summer school will be needed for the course.

  • In person summer school registration is due June 27th at 3pm.

  • Online summer school registration is due June 4th.
