Course Request Process for 2025-26 School Year. Due Friday, March 14

course request process

Hello Issaquah Families,

This week, we officially begin the Course Request Process for the 2025-26 school year.

During homeroom and classes on March 4th and 5th, we will be walking our students through the Course Request process, reviewing the 2025-26 Course Catalog, familiarizing students with the resources available on the website, and sharing grade and course specific information. Throughout this process we will focus on the importance of making informed choices, future goals, graduation requirements, and encourage students to request a schedule that creates a sense of balance for them. Teachers in individual classes will be sharing various options students can take in specific subject areas and discussing recommendations for students based on their performance in their current classes as well. Most of these conversations will take place in class on March 4th and 5th, but in some cases these conversations may occur later in the week to allow for some flexibility in individual classrooms.

The timeline for the Course Request Process can be found here. March 14th at 8 a.m. is the deadline for all Course Requests. Course requests AND alternates need to be entered Student Access. Students must enter 7 credits and 3-4 alternates. This must be done under students log in not parents/guardians.

We do want to point out that after students lock in their requests, they will only be able to make adjustments to their “course level” requests (ex: switching from AP US History to US History would be allowed; switching from Ceramics to Woodshop would not be allowed). Staffing decisions and our school-wide course schedule is based on students’ initial requests in March, so we urge you to think carefully before making your course requests.

We encourage students and families to review all of the resources and information available on the Course Request Page on the Counseling Website as they work to finalize their requests. Counselors are available for quick appointments and lunch drop-ins through March 14th.

Finally, we want to remind students and families that they should be working to make course requests that will build a schedule that is a “just-right” fit for their individual student. We’ve found that students who research course options using the Course Catalog, talk with their families and teachers about their choices, follow their individual interests (not influenced by a friend’s course selections), double-check to make sure they are meeting graduation requirements, ask questions of our counselors and select multiple alternative courses are the happiest with their schedule.
