November Counseling Corner

November is Gratitude Month — a time to reflect and appreciate.

As we move through the school year and into the season of giving thanks, November offers a meaningful opportunity for students, staff, and families to focus on gratitude. Whether it's recognizing a kind gesture, appreciating a teacher’s support, or simply being thankful for our school community, practicing gratitude helps build stronger connections and a more positive environment. Let’s take time this month to celebrate the good around us and share our appreciation with others — because even small acts of gratitude can make a big impact.

1st Quarter Grades:

First Quarter Grades will be posted in Qmlativ by Friday evening, November 7th. Reminder that Quarter grades are not included on transcripts and are meant to show progress at the halfway point in the semester.

Grade Level Announcements:

  • Seniors
    • Reminder to communicate with your Counselor about upcoming College Application deadlines. Transcripts should be ordered through Parchment, but there are other pieces Counselors need to submit, so please contact your Counselor if you have an upcoming deadline.
  • Juniors
    • Junior Credit Conferences will be starting this month! We plan to meet with each student individually to discuss credit status, course planning for senior year, and post-high school goals and planning. Keep an eye out for a slip from your Counselor for this meeting over the next couple of months.
  • All Grades
    • Information about your High School and Beyond Plan work will be presented during Homeroom this month. All students must complete a portion of their plan this year, so don’t miss this important date!
    • Online Learning Registration is now open for 2nd semester (Spring 2026). Please visit the page of the district’s website for more information about classes, dates and application process: https://www.isd411.org/programs-services/middle-high-school-programs/online-learning

They will include as many families as possible, but may have to close the program before this deadline if capacity is reached.

The program will be at the food bank, on Friday, December 5th and Saturday, December 6th. Timeslots will be assigned.

Reminder to all families and staff: The Holiday Gift Program is available to ALL ISD Students.  Non ISD students ages 0-18 also qualify if they live within the listed zip codes.

PE Credit Reminders

We have been getting an uptick in questions about PE credits - what is required, how sports waivers work, etc. There is information in our Course Guide, but we also have some reminders here:

  • A minimum of 0.5 (one semester) of your 1.5 required PE credits must be earned through in person PE class participation – PE class at IHS during the school year, in person PE class through ISD summer school, or via a Running Start course (available as an option when students are in 11th or12th grade only).
  • The remaining (up to) 1.0 of your required PE credits can be earned through outside options – online PE through ISD online, IHS sport participation, or participation in coached outside athletics.
  • IHS Sports:
At the end of each season, if you’ve met your coach’s participation requirements, your name will be sent to the Athletics Office. A 0.25 PE credit waiver will then be added to your record. Please note, this does not award PE credit—it simply waives 0.25 of the required PE credits.
  • Outside Sports (non-IHS):
If you participate in coached athletics outside of IHS, please visit the Counseling Office to pick up an Outside PE form. This form must be completed and signed by you, your parent/guardian, and your coach or instructor who will verify your participation.
Your counselor must approve the form before you begin logging hours.
For every 75 hours of approved participation, you’ll earn 0.5 PE credit with a “P” grade on your transcript (this does not affect your GPA).
