Attendance at Issaquah High School

general announcement

Issaquah High School Families-

Our team at Issaquah High School cares that all students fully benefit from their education by attending school regularly. As we begin the second semester, student attendance remains an essential step in the learning process. We are committed to supporting student attendance to enable them to fully access their education and make the most of this fresh start.

We miss your students when they are not in school, and we value their contributions to our community. If your student will be absent, please contact our attendance secretary Ms. Wallis at 425-837-6012 or ihsattendance@issaquah.wednet.edu

We know there are many reasons students are absent from school, from health concerns to transportation challenges. The transition to a new semester can also bring scheduling adjustments, new courses, and changes in routines. There are many people in our building prepared to help you if you or your student face challenges in getting to school regularly or on time including your counselors, administrators, on-time graduation specialists, and our school social worker.

We promise to continue tracking attendance daily, to notice when your student is missing from class, communicate with you to understand why they were absent, and to identify barriers and supports available to overcome challenges you may face in helping your student attend school.

As we begin the second semester, please remember our team is here to support your students in attending school. Here are some suggested practices that can encourage regular attendance during this important transition:

  • Establish strong routines from day one by setting consistent bedtimes and morning schedules, as early attendance patterns often set the tone for the entire semester.
  • Review new schedules and communicate proactively by ensuring your student knows their class locations and times, and reaching out to teachers early about any anticipated challenges or circumstances that might affect attendance.
  • Set goals and encourage engagement by discussing academic objectives with your student and supporting their involvement in second-semester activities such as spring sports, clubs, or events to strengthen connection to the school community.
  • Reach out for support immediately if attendance challenges arise so that we can work together to address barriers before they impact your student's success.
  • Plan ahead for Second Winter Break (2/16-2/20) by scheduling appointments and family commitments during the break rather than instructional time when possible.

We look forward to continuing to work together to support your students and their attendance. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about attendance.

Sincerely,

The Issaquah High School Administrative Team
